Mom To Be Study | Arkansas Children’s Nutrition Center

Study Overview

The MOM TO BE study is a three-visit nutrition research study designed to look at the effects of diet and exercise in women undergoing fertility treatment.

Study Eligibility

This study is for women who are 21 years of age or older, have a BMI between 25-45, and are not exercising regularly.

Study Requirements

If you join the study, your part in the research will last up to 12 weeks. You will attend three research study visits at the Arkansas Children’s Nutrition Center and you will be asked to donate oocytes (eggs) and follicular fluid (the fluid surrounding the egg) to the study team during your oocyte (egg) retrieval process.

After you choose to participate, you will be randomized (like flipping a coin) to either the standard of care or intervention group.

If you are in the intervention group, you will be asked to:

  1. Eat the food that will be delivered to your home weekly that is based on a Mediterranean diet.
  2. Exercise at least 3 times a week at a gym of your choice or at your house.

If you are in the standard of care group, you will follow the normal fertility clinic procedures and you will simply attend the two study research visits.

During the study, we will ask you questions about your health, medications and medical conditions. We will also ask you to attend up to two research study visits at ACNC where diet, body composition, and fitness level will be measured.

After completing the assessments, participants would receive a $50 gift card at each visit. Participants that are randomized into the intervention group will get all meals delivered to their home and free exercise coaching.

Participants that are in the standard of care group will be offered to join the intervention group if their fertility treatments are not successful and they will be monetarily compensated for their time.
